Step 6: How to Use Social Media to Drive MORE Traffic to Your Store • Step 7: Using Advanced Techniques Such as Video Marketing, Email Marketing, Search Engine
Optimization/Search Engine Marketing, Paid Search, and Social Media
At this point, most Internet users are well aware of social media. It is just a fancy way to sum up the way in which certain types of websites allow a group of people to interact, collaborate, and share information freely. Falling under this umbrella are sites like Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube. To many, these may all seem like a complete waste of time – and it can be if you don’t know how to use these sites wisely and MEASURE their return/effect.
Why should you use social media? Here are a few reasons: 1. Perhaps the #1 reason – it is FREE. Your business gains free exposure and you pay nothing, except for the time you tweet about what you are having for dinner tonight (kidding of course).
2. There are millions of people “engaged” in these networks – simply put, you have more chances of exposing your business to a wide range of people in a fast, easy way.
3. You gain instant feedback – good and bad about how your customers feel about you and your business.
4. Ubiquitous – that is a fancy way of saying you can be literally everywhere – think about having one website. Then think having a thousand websites. Again, the more places you are the greater ability you have of gaining new customers.
5. A great deal has been published on the Internet about the pros and cons of using social media for business purposes. We have found a series of helpful articles that also contain links to some great case studies on various social media platforms. Currently, there are four articles in The Boss Blog:
Five Guidelines for Your Company's Social Media Presence,
Facebook & Business: How to Get Your Business on Facebook,
LinkedIn is a Good Tool for Small Businesses, and
Should Twitter Be Part of Your Company's Internet Presence? We encourage you to read these articles as we think they will be helpful in answering questions about how, why, and where to use social media.
6. Quick point: Sign up for Twitter, Facebook, Youtube and LinkedIn accounts.Of course there are many others, but these are the most trafficked and achieve good results – YouTube is a good one if you plan to use video promotion. 7. Coming soon: We will be offering advanced training on how to use social media EFFECTIVELY. For now, sign up with the accounts above, become familiar with them if you have not done so already, and you will then be ready to learn the advanced techniques that we will cover in detail through blog posts, videos, and live webinars.
That is it for this step. The next one will be short, I promise.
